A normal birth is defined as the baby leaving the mother's body vaginally with its head down. The placenta and membranes are also expelled spontaneously after the baby is born.
In normal labor, birth is not interfered with as much as possible. Medical intervention is only used when necessary. The hormones activated during labor prepare mother and baby for birth in the healthiest way possible.
In recent years, expectant mothers may prefer to have a caesarean section because they are worried and afraid of the pain experienced during vaginal delivery. However, if there is no problem, normal birth is very beneficial for mother and baby health.
Normal Birth Process
- The first stage of normal labor begins with regular contractions that cause the cervix to open and soften, shorten and thin. These contractions allow the baby to enter the birth canal.
- The contractions cause the cervix to open. For a normal birth to occur, the cervix must open by 10 cm.
- After the opening of the cervix, the expectant mother must push for the specified time and frequency.
- After the baby's head comes out of the cervix, the rest of the body is removed by the doctor.
- After the baby is born, the placenta and all appendages are expelled from the uterus. Normal delivery is completed with the removal of the placenta.
During normal delivery, the cervix can be incised to facilitate the baby's exit from the cervix. The birth process is completed by stitching the incision areas.
